The value of Google result positioning

The ranking on the search result pages (SERPs) was important since usage of search engines became more and more the usual way to surf the web for many people. Webmasters know about the value of being at the Top of the result pages, but do you know how much more traffic you could get, if you are at the top one postion? And did you know that the difference between result rank 11 and rank 10 is about 143%?

Chitika now posted an interesting article about the value of Google ranking. According to them, only the top 3 postions are worth thinking about. Everything after that will be only the crumb of the cake and it’ll be a small one. At position 3, you still have about 11.42%, but after that you fall under 10%.

Chitika Value of Google Rank Graph

Daniel Ruby, Research Director, Online Insights Chitika, Inc. says:
“The biggest jump, percentage-wise, is from the top of page 2 to the bottom of page 1.  Going from the 11thspot to 10th sees a 143% jump in traffic.  However, the base number is very low – that 143% jump is from 1.11% of all Google traffic to 2.71%.  As you go up the top page, the raw jumps get bigger and bigger, culminating in that desired top position.”

This shows that the ranking on the search pages should be topic #1, if you try to get your site’s traffic up. Many people don’t use the address bar anymore to surf a Website, they just type in what they want into Google and if your page does not show up very high in the results, it seems you have no chance that the visitor will find you – although he maybe wanted to.
